Folly Lane v's Halton F H
FOLLY LANE 00 - 18 HFH
The first game of the season saw the HFH U18’s travel to Folly Lane to renew old acquaintances with the Salford side. HFH had not beaten Folly Lane for the last 5 years.Folly Lane played at Under 18’s last year in the first division which they won. After a successful 2009/2010 season everyone was looking forward to the new season. It was a hot dry day which led itself to some free flowing rugby from the HFH lads.HFH kicked off up the slight slope and set the tone of the game with a well drilled, tough defensive set of 6, keeping Folly to within 30 metres of their own try line. With some really good ball movement a strong running of the forwards with Scott McCann and Jack Williams running hard early on, the ball was set up nicely to move the ball quickly through the hands of Connor Henry, Jack Moon who fed Sam Clark on the touchline with 2 defenders to beat. Clarkey powered his way over the line to score right in the corner.Pricey was unlucky with the touchline kick, which fell just wide.Getting the ball back HFH threw the ball around with great confidence and made another opening on the opposite side of the field with great ball control. Craig ‘Shabba’ Glover offloaded a great ball to Callum Hayes who scored in the corner. From the touchline Pricey hit the left post and the ball fell away.HFH were dominating the game and their defensive game was on top form, crunching tackles and winning the floor gave the HFH side a great platform to play some really expansive rugby. All credit to Folly who were very well organized in defence and battled hard with their big aggressive team but came up against an on form HFH side. Although HFH had the upper hand no more tries were scored and at HT the score was 00 v 08
With a very strong squad available interchanges were made throughout the first half, with Mike O’Brien replacing Jordan Holland, Brett Mikalauskas replacing Anthony Jackson and Joey Miller replacing Jack Williams.
All the forwards worked really hard in the hot conditions and had earned respites.Folly Kicked off the second half and HFH continued as they had finished the first half. At times Folly players became over aggressive to try and stop the HFH side from dominating the game and with 10 minutes gone the Folly prop threw a right hook off the ball to floor Mike O’Brien, which went unnoticed and unpunished – this only cemented the HFH lads who became determined to add to the points without any reply. As HFH attacked the Folly line, Brett Mikalauskas sent the ball on the blind side to Sam Clarke, who again powered over the line for his second try of the game. The kick was sent just wide again - unusually for Pricey but the score had moved onto 00 v 12.By now HFH were in total command of the game and had stopped the Folly threats.Again HFH attacked the Folly line and with 3 plays left of the 6, Danny Price kicked early which was caught by Shabba and offloaded to Callum to score his second try.David Meadows took over the kicking duties and put the ball over the crossbar to make the final score line read 00 v 18 to the Hornets.
