The opening game of the season for the newly formed HFH U7’s, saw Thatto Heath Crusaders make an away trip to Wilmere Lane Sports Ground to take on their hosts.

The game started with the HFH U7’s in possession and a "go forward" philosophy was the key request from the coaching staff.

That’s preciously what the HFH U7’s players did, running straight lines but they were up against what looked like an organised and well drilled Thatto Heath Crusaders side.

On defence, the HFH U7’s team found it difficult to cope with the speed of the Thatto Heath players, and the lack of match practice showed on the Hornets when Thatto heath Crusaders ran in a few unanswered tries before half time.

A quick regroup at half time was just the ticket for the Hornets.

Each set of six improved with progression of the game and the HFH U7’s were rewarded with a barnstorming run from Reece Sumner, finishing off with a fine solo try.

Thatto Heath Crusader's experience was always going to be the deciding factor and despite a massive effort from every single player Thatto Heath Crusaders ran in another few tries.

The HFH U7's should not be disheartened by this first outing. Every player has proven they have the necessary skills to take this team forward. It's now down to game readiness, training, coaching and all the other ‘off-field’ facets that go towards improving the players.

Well done to all the players for a huge effort and let’s look forward to Sunday’s next fixture.
