05 Apr 09, Halton F H v's Mayfield
The HFH U10’s carried on their recent winning run of six consecutive games producing another excellent performance with some great attacking play and physical defence.
The Hornets first-half tries came from Danny Simpson, Jack Jolly, James Owen and Josh Wainwright, to race the HFH U10’s into a 22 - 00 half time lead.
In the second half, the Hornets rotated there team with all substitutes making an impression, producing another good second half display.
The HFH U10’s defensive qualities were outstanding and the whole team was determined to prevent Mayfield from scoring.
The Hornets began to throw the ball about and this resulted in Jack Jolly scoring two further tries to take his tally to a hat-rick. Other try scores were Jack Gatcliffe, Josh Wainwright and ‘Man-of-the-’Match’, Charlie McDonnell to complete the score line.
This was another good display from the Hornets which was sturdily built on a solid defence from the forwards, who in turn laid a platform for the pace of the HFH U10’s backline.

26 Apr 09, Halton F H v's Portico Panthers
The HFH U10’s continued their winning run with another fine performance against a hard working Portico side.
The Hornets played some lovely rugby in the first half with tries from Jack Gatcliffe, Luke Cairns and Josh Wainwright, which gave a half time lead at 16 – 00.
In the second period, the HFH U10’s continued to apply more pressure to the Portico Panthers side.
This resulted in the Hornets scoring another three tries, with Second Rower Josh Wainwright, taking one of these to give him an outstanding tally of four tries for the day.
This was another good day’s work from the HFH U’10’s team, with some excellent defence from Daniel Simpson, Jack Jolly, Josh Wainwright and Stuart Tyghe.
Well done to all the lads.

03 May 09, Wigan St Judes v's Halton F H
This was not to be Hornets day as they came up against a very strong Wigan St Judes side.
The HFH u10’s travelled to Wigan with four key players missing but never gave up and were a credit to each other, showing outstanding discipline in defeat.
The Hornets had two players playing out of position in the half back role; these were Alex Highcock and Daniel Simpson. Both of these players gave a high-quality account of themselves along with Luke Cairns in the backs.
Forwards Jack Phillips and Stuart Tyghe worked tirelessly all game but to no avail.
The Hornets will learn from this experience and hopefully put things right for the coming weeks ahead.
The HFH U10’s received credit from the coaches at Wigan St Judes for their exceptional discipline throughout the game.
Keep your heads up lads, there’s always next week.

10 May 09, Wigan St Patricks Cobras v's Halton F H
The HFH U10’s travelled to Wigan on a Thursday night match to play a re-arranged fixture from the previous Sunday, due to players being on holiday. The Hornets, still wounded from the St Judes defeat, had something to prove to themselves, their coaches and parents alike.
The HFH U10’s started the game strong with some outstandingly well completed sets of six. There was some great line speeding defensive work and excellent tackling, which unnerved the Wigan St Patricks side who knew they were in for a tough game.
Both sides played some great rugby and it took seventeen minutes for the first try to be registered, with Wigan St Patricks breaking the deadlock to take the lead.
The Hornets had to step up another gear to withstand the Wigan St Patricks pressure and there was some superb defence from Jack Jolly, Daniel Simpson and Alex Highcock, who kept the opposition at bay.
Just before half time, Wigan St Patricks scored another try which looked dubious as their player appeared to have been in touch but the try was given by the referee. This broke the Hornets players resolve.
Second half, the Hornets had to get back in the game as early as they could since they knew they had to score first. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
Wigan St Patricks scored two more tries to go 22 - 00 ahead and put the game out of reach of the HFH U10’s. The positive side was that the Hornets just wouldn’t lie down and eventually they scored a try through ‘Man-of-the-Match’ Jack Jolly, who ran his blood to water all night for a well deserved try. This brought the score to 22 – 06.
Wigan St Patricks had the last say with another late try to finish off what was a gruelling encounter for the Hornets.
The HFH U10’s were well served by Daniel Simpson, Luke Cairns and Jack Gatcliffe in the backs, while forwards Jack Jolly, Alex Highcock and Jack Phillips tackled superbly all night.
This was a match improved performance from the Hornets against a well organised and efficient Wigan St Patricks side.
Well done again lads!

17 May 09, Halton F H v's Atherton Dragons
The HFH U10’s produced another good win with a hard fought game against a plucky Atherton outfit. This was the Hornets second game in four days, after a tough midweek trip to Wigan St Pats which tested the Hornets resolve.
The Hornets started the game well with some excellent attacking play and soon raced ahead with Jack Gatcliffe scoring two first half tries to lead 10 – 00.
Atherton Dragons soon started to find their feet and put the Hornets under real pressure, which resulted in a try from a kick that the Hornets could not re-gather in the goal area, and it therefore lead to a touched down for the Dragons, to move the half time score at 10 – 06.
The second period was dominated by defence, with both sides putting in some tremendous amount of tackling to keep each other out.
The Hornets defence was well marshalled by Jack Jolly, Stuart Tyghe, Daniel Simpson and Alex Highcock, with half backs Charlie McDonnell, Jack Gatcliffe and Hooker Jack Phillips, trying to create gaps in the Atherton’s defensive line.
Thomas Attwood and Cameron Hanley came on as substitutes and produced some barnstorming runs which resulted in the Hornets getting some good field position. From this, Jack Jolly scored in the corner, which virtually saw the visitors off.
This was a hard fought game and credit must go to the Hornets players. To win this one after back to back games in four days, is a real testament of each players resolve.
Well done lads!

24 May 09, Latchford v's Halton F H
The Hornets U10’s travelled to Warrington for the last game of the season in an enthralling encounter which was nip and tuck all game.
Latchford scored from the first set of six which rattled Hornets and sparked them into life. The HFH U10’s scored next with prop forward Stuart Tyghe barging over for a great try to draw level at 06 - 06.
The next score came from Latchford who responded quickly after some lazy defensive work from the Hornets. ‘Man-of-the-Match, Charlie McDonnell, started the comeback when he linked inside two defenders to put the HFH U10’s into the lead at 10 – 12, but once again Latchford got a foothold in the game and came rampaging back to score two quick tries to take the half time score line lead of 22 - 12.
After some stern talking too about the defensive display, and the lacklustre attack, the HFH U10’s came out second half raring to go and make amends. Charlie McDonnell paved the way with two more solo tries to claw the Hornets back into contention to reduce the deficit to 22 - 20.
Latchford again responded with another well taken try to edge ahead to 26 -20, but the HFH U10’s had other ideas mounting a fight back with more speed around the ruck and giving the half backs more space to control things and therefore putting Latchford on the back foot.
Jack Gatcliffe got a decisive try from close range after a superb pass from Jack Phillips, and this clawed the score line back to 26 - 24.
Latchford pressed hard on the HFH U10’s line but could not break the awesome Hornets defensive line.
Latchford then came up with a kick on the first tackle which resulted in the Hornets getting possession and gaining good field position. On their set of six, the Hornets broke downfield after Kenny Curlett’s initial breakthrough, which resulted in Charlie McDonnell’s scoring his forth try and wrapping up the win in the final minutes of the game.
This was a great fight back from the Hornets in sweltering conditions and shows what character the players possess.
Charlie McDonnell had an outstanding game in the backs with Stuart Tyghe easily the best forward with a tremendous amount of work in attack and defence.
Well done to all players.
