01 Mar 09, Halton F H v's Blackbrook Royals [National Cup]
Once again the HFH U14’s got off to a bad start allowing the visitors (who were one man down for most of the game) easy possession at the kick off but some determined defence, lead by Dean Ainsworth and Alex Clare, held the visitors at bay.
It was Alex Clare who opened the Hornets account after stealing the ball and outpacing the defence to score. A hazy run from Dean Ainsworth and quick hands ended with a try from Anthony Armstrong. Alex Clare scored his second with a long range effort.
Brook hit back but were held up and from the scrum Adam Dolby set up the position for Conah Keenan to stride over. Keenan returned the favour to set up Adam Dolby for the next try and a half-time score of 26 – 00.
The second half began with more Hornets pressure but Blackbrook held out with firm defence before sweeping up field to register their first try of the game with a successful kick.
Now it was the Hornets turn to withstand a concerted effort from the Blackbrook attack and they passed with flying colours.
With the ball back in their possession the home side rallied and after an Ainsworth break Alex Clare shot over from acting half back to grab his hat-trick, Mike Jones converting.
Blackbrook scored another after strong running from their big second rower and it was Alex Clare who wrapped up the scoring with his fourth try.
Man-of-the Match was Alex Clare, who also produced some excellent try saving tackles. Adam Dolby showed great improvement to win the Coaches award with Dean Ainsworth putting in an enormous amount of work to get the ‘Most Tackles award. Conah Keenan and Anthony Armstrong were the pick of the forwards.

08 Mar 09, Halton F H v's Wigan St Judes
The HFH U14’s took to the field short-handed for the sixth game in a row and gave another terrific display against a strong team from Wigan.
Hornets opened in a determined fashion helped by a truckload of possession. Whenever the Judes got the ball they were forced into errors by a fiery defence lead superbly by Dean Ainsworth, Jonny Wood and Conah Keenan. Despite this it was the Judes who scored first and against the run of play with a brilliant line shot that found space on the Hornets defensive flanks.
HFH were not buoyed by this score and stuck to the task in hand and were finally rewarded for their efforts when Jonny Wood playing his first game at standoff cut back inside the sliding Wigan defence to score under the sticks Anthony Armstrong converted to make it 06 - 06 at half time.
WSJ opened the second half in a more determined mood and scored two quick fire tries against some poor defence out wide. This seemed to spark the home side back to life and their earlier resolve returned.
Conner Egan showed his speed and eye for the gap with a try from acting half back converted by Armstrong.
With four points in it, HFH tried all they could to snatch what would have been a well deserved victory, nevertheless it was a great performance and they knew it.
MOTM was awarded to Jonny Wood, Dean Ainsworth took the Coaches Award and Lee-Clark Rogers looked very handy in the dummy-half role with Conah Keenan the pick of the forwards.
