ALL REMAINING FIXTURES AS FOLLOWS:
06 Sept 09, Ince Rose Bridge v's Halton F H
This was a good first game of the season for the HFH U8’s.
Right from the first whistle, the HFH U8’s defence was tight with really good line speed. There were plenty of big tackles made against a determined Ince Rose Bridge team who just kept on coming and coming.
Today’s game has been the first time that the HFH U8’s players were given their own field positions. Coaches Andy Dodd and Paul Corker were more than impressed with the whole team.
In attack, the HFH U8’s ran some good and straight yards and then started to offload and pass the ball about resulting in some great tries.
Not to take anything away from Ince Rose Bridge, who were solid in defence and never gave up.
All in all, this was a great game and one which was warmly applauded by both sets of supporters.

13 Sept 09, Halton F H v's Leigh Miners Rangers
Today the HFH U8’s played host to Leigh Miners Rangers and on paper this game was going to be the clash of the titans.
And that is exactly what the spectators got; a game of Rugby League which wouldn’t have gone a miss had it been televised live on Sky Sports on a Friday evening.
Both teams set out their stall with solid defences and good strong running but it was the HFH U8’s who twice broke through the LMR defences before half time, to go in leading at the break 02 - 00 up.
In the second half, LMR came out firing on all cylinders and scored three good tries.
This was a situation the HFH U8’s players had never experienced before, going behind in a game and before you knew it, all the Hornets players had turned into little Gladiators. Their hunger was strong and they fought to get bake into the game.
This they did in style scoring two immediate tries and then holding out successions of LMR onslaughts, eventually running out winners 04 – 03.
This was undoubtedly the HFH U8’s best performance to date and HFH U8’s coaches Andy Dodd and Paul Corker applauded the whole team after the finish for such great effort and a great game of Rugby League.

20 Sept 09, Oldham St Annes v's Halton F H
Today the HFH U8’s had to travel up the M62 to Oldham St Anne’s knowing they had a tough task ahead of them.
From the off, it was obvious that both teams were up for a game of rugby and that’s what the spectators got.
It was the HFH U8’s who broke through first with a try out wide. But this made Oldham more determined and they threw everything at the HFH U8’s players who defended like lions.
The HFH U8’s scored two more tries before the break to make it 00 – 03.
The second half started exactly the same as the first half, with the Hornets getting an early try to put pressure once again on Oldham. Contrary to the first half, Oldham rallied together and scored a good try out wide in the corner.
The HFH U8’s then started to offload and put some great passes together. This resulted in the Hornets scoring two more good tries.
This was a very pleasing performance by all concerned. Well done boys.

27 Sept 09, Halton F H v's Saddleworth
Today the HFH U8’s hosted guests Saddleworth Rangers who to date had not been beaten in the under 8"s season.
The HFH U8’s started the game well with some good straight yards and great foot speed to open the scoring.
This is how the first half panned out with the HFH U8’s pounding the solid Saddleworth Rangers defensive line, managing to cross for a further four tries.
Saddleworth Rangers did not give up and scored a good try out wide just before half time. This gave a half time score line of 05 – 01.
The second half was a different ball game with Saddleworth defending valiantly against the Hornets big guns, only letting the HFH U8’s score twice more before replying with two good tries of their own.
Fortunately it was the HFH U8’s who had the final say and scored right on the final whistle.

04 Oct 09, Thatto Heath Crusaders v's Halton F H
Today, the HFH U8’s travelled up the road to play Thatto Heath Crusaders.
The HFH U8’s knew they had a big task ahead of themselves and approached the game in the correct manner.
The Thatto Heath players were all of a larger size to that of the Hornets players and they were strong with it. They utilised this advantage and ran in three tries, with no reply from the Hornets team.
In fact, the HFH U8’s players were stunned but then they got their heads together to make a big comeback and scored five tries to make half time score line 03 – 05 in the Hornets favour.
The second half was really a one sided affair with the Hornets dominating everything with solid tackling and good strong running by all players.
This doesn’t take anything away from Thatto Heath players who kept pounding away.
The Hornets scored eight tries to make the final score 03 – 13 to the Hornets.
The HFH U8’s team seems to be getting stronger and stronger each week with coaches Andy Dodd and Paul Corker hoping this great team work continues.
Well done to all the players.

11 Oct 09, Halton F H v's Wigan St Judes
The HFH U8’s today hosted visitors Wigan St Jude’s, who were carrying a playing record of remaining unbeaten thus far into the season.
The Hornets players knew this was going to be a tough task, with the Jude’s having such a forceful reputation.
From the off it was an even game with both teams defending very well against strong running players of both sides. But it was the HFH U8’s who opened the scoring only for the Jude’s to reply immediately.
The Hornets dug deep and eventually broke down the St Jude’s side to score five more tries before half time. This made the score line 06 – 01.
The second half resulted in a big turnaround with St Jude’s coming out against the Hornets with all guns blazing. Their reward was the scoring of five tries.
This stunned the HFH U8’s but they soon regained control and ran in six additional tries of their own.
All in all, a good game off rugby was played by both teams.

18 Oct 09, Halton F H v's Westhoughton Lions
The HFH U8’s today played hosts to Westhoughton Lions at Wilmere Lane Sports Ground.
Right from the referee’s whistle, Westhoughton lived up to their names by stunning the HFH U8’s by scoring from their first set of six.
This was a big wake up call for the HFH U8’s and it was from this point forward that they dominated the game, almost scoring at will. In defence, the HFH U8’s were very solid and tackled the Lions off the field, giving no room to move.
At half time, the scores were 07 – 01 in the Hornets favour.
The second half was a repeat of the first, with the HFH U8’s starting to off load and create chances. This resulted in the HFH U8’s scoring five additional tries.
Westhoughton Lions did not give up and scored a good solo try out wide. This gave a final score line of 12 – 02 to the Hornets.

25 Oct 09, Halton F H v's West Bank Bears
The HFH U8’s today hosted close rivals West Bank Bears to Wilmere Lane Sports Ground.
The situation was this…….both teams were unbeaten so this encounter was going to be a tough and hard fought battle, with one of the teams losing their one hundred percent record. The other interesting angle was the fact that this was a Widnes derby game.
The HFH U8’s boys were all fired up ready for this match and this showed throughout the game. HFH dominated in attack and defence giving WBB no room to move. The lightening line speed and strong running of the Hornets resulted in a half time score line of 05 – 00 to the Hornets.
In the second half, the HFH U8’s stepped up another gear, throwing the ball through many sets of hands. This resulted in another five tries been scored and the score board reading 10 – 00 at full time in favour of the Hornets.
WBB did not give up but could not deal with the determination of the Hornets boys.
All credit goes to both teams who gave a Super League performance.
Well done all.

08 Nov 09, Halton F H v's Hindley
The HFH U8’s today played hosts to Hindley.
Coaches Andy Dodd and Paul Corker had the privilege of having a full squad to choose from, which created a few headaches but in the end it was decided to field two teams, with each playing alternative halves of the game.
Hindley came to Wilmere Lane Sports Ground with a record of having won their previous five to six fixtures. When the team arrived, the HFH U8’s team could see why, since they were a big side and looked hungry to play a game of rugby league.
Straight from the kick off, the HFH U8’s scored from the first set of six. Not to be out done, Hindley replied immediately with a score of their own.
The first half remained a close run affair both in attack and defence with the HFH U8’s just edging it at the half time whistle 03 - 02.
In the second half, the HFH U8’s came out with a will to win. It was this determination along with some good strong tackling, speed and straight running that pinned Hindley in their half of the field. This gave Hindley no room to move.
The HFH U8’s ran in six unanswered tries making a final score of 09 – 02.
Well done to all the squad today. Every player gave a very good performance of themselves.

15 Nov 09, Halton F H v's Folly Lane
Today the HFH U8’s welcomed Folly Lane U8’s to Wilmere Lane Sports Ground.
This would be no easy fixture since Folly Lane had won all but one of this season’s fixtures so far.
Folly Lane started well with a good, strong and fast running team who made good yards from the whistle. In return, the HFH U8’s fought hard to keep Folly Lane at bay and with some good tackling, forced the pressure on Folly Lane to put one too many passes together which allowed the Hornets to intercept and score.
This demonstrated what the Hornets were capable of and levelled the game out so that tit-for-tat, the game became pretty even. By half time, the HFH U8’s had established a lead of 06 – 02.
In the second half the HFH U8’s seemed much more settled and started to use the ball well, scoring four good tries. Folly Lane themselves scored another two tries out wide and never gave up to make the final score 10 - 04.
Today was a stern test for the HFH U8’s and each and all of the players stood up to the task.
Well done boys.

22 Nov 09, Halton F H v's Burtonwood
Today the HFH U8’s played hosts to Burtonwood Bulldogs.
The Hornets knew from the last encounter that this was going to be a hard, fought game, and with Burtonwood having an ex Super League player as their coach, the word was out that they were a very good team this season.
Right from the off, it was a tough battle of defences with both teams absolutely solid and not letting anything through. It was the HFH U8’s who broke the deadlock first but Burtonwood replied immediately afterwards.
Good strong running from the HFH U8’s made another try but again the Burtonwood Bulldogs came back to make it 02 – 02 at half time mark.
The second half started the same as the first half but then the Hornets started to settle and use the ball. They were off-loading and passing across the line and using fast feet to score four good tries.
Credit goes to the Burtonwood Bulldogs who lived up to their name and did not give in. They fought on and scored a good try to make the full time score line read 06 – 03 in favour of the Hornets.
On a cold, wet and windy Sunday morning, both teams gave a great spectacle of rugby league.

29 Nov 09, Halton F H v's Chorley
The HFH U8’s welcomed Chorley Panthers to Wilmere Lane Sports Ground for this Sunday morning clash, and were once again into winning ways.
When Chorley Panthers arrived it was plain to see that the team was a big robust side. When the game got underway, it was evident that were a well drilled side eager for their rugby league.
In absolutely horrendous conditions, both sides slogged it out but it was HFH U8’s who broke through to score first. Chorley Panthers dug-in and they were award a try soon after. The scoring continued when the Hornets replied with another two tries to make the half time score line 03 – 01 to the Hornets.
The start of the second half was no different to the first, with both teams hungry for the ball and tackling everything that moved. Fortunately, it was the Hornets who again settled quicker and scored four good tries.
Chorley Panthers battered the HFH U8’s line for a couple of sets of six but the Hornets players were having none of it and kept Chorley Panthers out with some great tackles.
Chorley Panthers did have the final say and scored a good power try on the very last set of the game.
This was a good, pleasing performance by HFH U8’s in very difficult conditions. Coaches Andy and Paul were certainly ‘well chuffed’ with the whole team.

06 Dec 09, Crosfields v's Halton F H
The HFH U8’s had to travel to Warrington today to take on Crosfield Cobras.
On paper this game was going to be the Hornets toughest test. As things turned out, ‘the paper’ wasn’t wrong,
Crosfield Cobras matched the Hornets in all areas and straight from the off, it was tit for tat. The Hornets were to cross the Crosfields try line due to big straight running, with Crosfield Cobras replying straight away.
The Hornets settled quickest and scored another four tries to Crosfield Cobras one. When half time arrived, it was 02 – 04 in the Hornets favour.
At the start of the second half, Crosfield Cobras came out running good yards and defending very well. It was the Hornets line speed and determination which stood them well.
In a game that was roundly applauded by both sets of supporters, the Hornets ran in another four tries to cobras two in the second half. On the sound of the final whistle the score line read 04 – 09 to the Hornets.
This had been a brilliant game of rugby and the Hornets players certainly knew they had been in a battle.
Hornets coaches, Andy and Paul would like to thank all the Crosfield Cobra players and coaching staff, for giving the HFH U8’s a good game of rugby, and in the right spirit.
This gratitude is extended to all the HFH U8’s players and to the parents & spectators who, week in week out, do the business for the HFH Under 8's.

This was a reversed fixture.
Today the HFH U8’s hosted Newton Storm to WLSG, a fixture reversed due to weather problems.
It was the Hornets first game since the before the Christmas break and they were up against a much improved Newton Storm team. As it turned out, it was a close game from the off with both teams tackling and defending really well.
It was the HFH U8’s who scored first with good straight running but Newton Storm soon replied straight away with a good try taken out wide.
Come half time, and it was the Hornets who went in at half time leading 04 – 02.
In the second half, the Hornets seemed to settle and regain their line speed but Newton Storm did not give up and pounded the HFH U8’s defensive line with their big guns.
Lewis Dodd and Jack Conlan made some bone crunching tackles and both scored good tries.
At full time the score was 07 - o4 to the Hornets.

The HFH U8’s travelled to Shevington Sharks today in only their second game since the Christmas break.
From the way the pitch was set up and the boggy conditions, it was clear that Shevington were going to play up the middle rugby. And this is what they did, pounding at the HFH U8’s defence line for set after set.
This was a very tight game but the Hornets settled down and scored four good tries to Shevington’s one. This is how the score line remained until the half whistle was sounded.
In the second half, the Hornets seemed to go to sleep and Shevington scored three great tries, using the centre – middle area of the pitch.
As the alarm bells started to ring out, the HFH U8’s players listened closely, and then started to close Shevington down. The Hornets pushed Shevington backwards on each tackle, and then used their speedy power and good off-loads, to scored six tries.
This left Shevington shell shocked and with a massive mountain to climb. But once again, the Hornets players stood firm and defended like lions to prevent Shevington from scoring any more.
This was a great performance by the HFH U8's team, who were against a powerful Shevington outfit.

07 Mar 10, Halton F H v's Wigan St Cuthberts
[This home game was actually played on the Saturday, due to the anticipated congestion expected on the Sunday, due to all the HFH age group teams having home fixtures. The HFH Club would like to thank the Wigan St Cuthbert's Club, the coaches and ALL parents for their cooperation. It's really appreciated.]
Playing on a Saturday morning instead of a Sunday, the HFH U8’s today played host to Wigan St Cuthbert’s.
The Wigan St Cuthbert’s team had arrived at Wilmere Lane Sports Ground with a full squad of 18 players, while the Hornets themselves also had a full squad of players.
The coaches of both Clubs therefore decided to field two teams which were of equal ability. This arrangement worked very well and a great game of rugby league was played.
In the first half, Wigan St Cuthbert’s fielded their young guns who were eager and ready to work hard. This was matched by the Hornets players, who had no big guns to help them out, but still matched the Wigan outfit.
An excellent game of rugby league was had by all and some great outstanding performances were on show, but it was Wigan St Cuthbert’s who went in at half time leading 04 – 05 tries ahead.
In the second half, Wigan St Cuthbert’s fielded their older payers who ran powerfully and tackled very well throughout the whole of the second half.
The HFH U8’s had chosen to fielded their bigger players for the second half, and they threw the ball about to score 7 unanswered tries. This made the final score HFH U8’s 11 tries, against the Wigan St Cuthbert’s 5 tries.
The coaches of both teams were very pleased with the way the players of both teams conducted themselves. It was a great game of junior rugby league to watch, and ALL the players of both Clubs played some good confidence building rugby and should be proud of themselves.

14 Mar 10, Bold Miners v's Halton F H
Today the HFH U8’s entertained and welcomed a very big and physical Bold Miners team to WLSG.
Bold Miners have been having a great season, only losing on a couple of occasions. Consequently, the Hornets lads knew they had to be switched on straight from the start, for what would be a very hard and tough game.
It was a very windy and blustery Sunday morning, so the HFH Coaches told the players to respect the ball and play a more direct game than in previous weeks.
The team are normally so natural with the players really showing their great skills with ball in hand.
Unfortunately, today’s weather conditions meant the team had to play a different game, since it wasn’t the occasion for expansive rugby. But the HFH Coaches needn’t have worried, as the players dug deep and played hard.
The main pleasurable pat of the game for the HFH Coaches was to see nine different HFH players scoring tries.
The commitment in the defensive department was always there. As always, there was some brilliant ‘stand-out’ performances and excellent line speed from a large part of the squad.
On the other hand, there were other players who could have put a little more effort in on their defensive work. This is not a problem as this will be a specific area which the HFH Coaches will be working on in the coming weeks at training sessions.
But overall, the HFH U8’s Coaches were happy with today’s performance. It’s not so easy to get into a rhythm when the playing squad is so large. Today, the HFH U8’s had 17No players available. In a thirty minute game, it’s a juggling act to give every player a run out onto the playing area.
Next week it’s a big game against a very good Wigan side in form of Ince Rose Bridge. Lots of hard work in training will be required to counteract and compete against a formidable Wigan outfit.

The HFH U8’s today had to travel up the road to Clock Face Miners.
Right from the first whistle, it was plain to see that Clock Face were up for a game of rugby league and played with strength and heart.
But it was the Hornets who dominated in all areas and played probably the best game of this half season. The HFH Coaches were really impressed with the team’s performance, with only having ten of the squad to choose from.
All of the ten players today put in a great effort and entertained the spectators with pace, good hands, power and determination.
By half time, the Hornets had run in three tries to Clock Face’s nil.
In the second half, the HFH Coaches let the boys have a run out on their own.
It can only be said that the HFH U13’s players were nothing short of BRILLIANT.
A very big ‘Well Done’ to all the ten players who turned out today.

28 Mar 10, Waterhead v's Halton F H
Today, the HFH U8’s took the long trip to Oldham to face Waterhead, and with the clocks going back an hour; it was a tiring journey for the players.
The Hornets played the Waterhead team on a small and very boggy pitch.
The HFH U8’s put on a good show of Rugby League but did lacked that killer instinct they’d had from previous weeks.
Waterhead were a keen little team but did not really trouble the Hornets.
The Hornets scored eight tries to Waterhead’s one. This was a good result for the Hornets who used the ball very well in very muddy conditions.

11 Apr 10, Halton F H v's Langwworthy
Today, the HFH U8’s hosted Langworthy Reds at Wilmere Lane Sports Ground.
This was Hornets fiftieth game and although it’s not all about winning a game, all the HFH U8’s players knew this was something to remember.
The HFH U8’s played a brilliant game and were all switched on for this big occasion.
The Hornets had great line speed and shut down any Langworthy offence straight away but Langworthy never gave up and played with lots of strength and determination.
By half time, the HFH U8’s had run in five tries with Langworthy still to get on the score board.
In the second half, it was even better for the Hornets with the HFH U8’s defending like a pack of hungry wolves. In offence, they off loaded, passed and ran with great strength and speed, almost scoring at will.
To give Langworthy Reds some praise, they never gave in and are a credit to their coaches and parents.

18 Apr 10,, Halton F H v's Blackbrook
Today, the HFH U8’s welcomed Blackbrook Royals to Wilmere Lane Sports Ground.
The Blackbrook sides arrived carrying a similar playing record to the Hornets so the HFH U8’s players knew they had a big test ahead of themselves.
From the initial whistle it was plain for all to see that this was going to be a physical tight game of rugby league and that’s exactly what it proved to be.
With both sides defending like lions, closing each other down on every occasion, it was the Hornets who were making more yards. This resulted in two tries before half time to see the scoreboard read 02 – 00.
In the second half, Blackbrook came out all guns blazing and scored a quick try.
This stunned the Hornets side for a few minutes but they soon gathered their composure and started to pound away relentlessly at the Blackbrook defence and offence.
This resulted in the HFH U8’s scoring three great tries which seemed to see off the Blackbrook fight back.
All in all, this was a stern test for the Hornets side who again with great teamwork, skill, power and determination, saw off a very powerful and well drilled Blackbrook outfit.
Well done boys – keep up the good work.

25 Apr 10, Culcheth v's Halton F H
HFH U8’s travelled to Culcheth Eagles today with nearly a full squad to select from.
Culcheth were down to only six players so Alex Pearte played for Culcheth Eagles in the first half.
HFH started quickly scoring from the first set then defended well in defence, keeping the Eagles out. They then ran in four more tries scoring almost at will.
Not to be outdone, the Eagles did not give up and they scored a good try. There was good performance from the Hornets players who played for Culcheth in the first half. Well done boys.
The half time score line read 01 – 05 for the Hornets.
In the second half, Jack Conlan and Dan Rice played for the Culcheth Eagles and HFH U8’s fielded the rest of their squad.
As in the first, the Hornets drew first blood with good powerful running. The Eagles replied straight away and they scored another try. This kick started the Hornets who then ran in four great tries.
It was only through some good defensive work and last ditch tackles that the Hornets kept the willing Eagles at bay.
